touchdown during the Ascenders’ 43-7 win over the Montverde Eagles

The IMG Academy Ascenders (3-1) were back on the road in week four, traveling to Montverde, Fla. to face the Montverde Academy Eagles (0-2). The Ascender offensive line is anchored by four Division-I commits and showed their might in the trenches, opening lanes for junior running back Jack Wegher (Dakota Dunes, S.D.) who punched in a pair of rushing touchdowns on the night. Quarterback Deondre Francois (Orlando, Fla.), a Florida State commit, also passed for two touchdowns, connecting with RB Tony Jones (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and WR Brayden Beard (Fredericksburg, Texas), as the Ascenders made short work of the Eagles, 43-7.

Over the past three games, the Ascenders’ offense has produced 173 points (69, 61, 43 points). Much of that production has been due to a prolific rushing attack, with RB Taven Birdow (Altus, Okla.) and Tony Jones finding pay dirt on the ground for the Ascenders’ first and last touchdowns, respectively, at Montverde. Over the past three games, the IMG Academy rushing attack has accounted for 13 total touchdowns. During that stretch, quarterback Francois has passed for 10 touchdowns without an interception.

The Ascenders return to action at home on Sept. 26 with one of their toughest tests to date when they take on New Jersey’s St. Peter’s Prep Marauders (2-0), who are ranked #12 overall in the Max Preps Xcellent 25. Quarterback Brandon Wimbush, a Penn State commit, will be under center for the Marauders in one of only two matchups east of the Mississippi pitting- Elite 11 finalists against one another. Deondre Francois and Wimbush competed at the annual passing competition earlier this year. Kickoff at IMG Academy Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 pm EST.
