Prep football | IMG Academy moves up to No. 29 in national poll

Despite having an open date this past week, IMG Academy’s football team improved its national ranking.

The Ascenders (7-1) jumped four spots to No. 29 in the latest CBS MaxPreps rankings in only their second season as a football team.

IMG also jumped Miami Central, which fell six places, as the No. 2-ranked team from Florida behind Miami Booker T. Washington (No. 18 nationally).

The Ascenders have two games remaining to bolster their resume, because they are a Florida High School Athletic Association independent and won’t compete in the playoffs for a state title.

They travel to face Clearwater Central Catholic this Friday and conclude the season at home against Hialeah Champagnat Catholic. Both programs are ranked in the Associated Press state poll. CCC is the No. 1 ranked club in Class 3A, while Champagnat is ranked fifth in 2A.
